Juggling in
video games

A few moments of juggling for no reason in video games complementing the essay written by Eric Longequel and published in the first issue of YANA.

Juggling can happen in video games in two different ways. Either the game itself is built around a concept that can be seen as juggling or it’s about something totally different, and people find ways to do useless juggling within it, just for fun.

Speed run

An example of juggling inspired by video games,
by Éric Longequel & Jonathan Lardillier

Ball

The very first game released in the Game and Watch series is the most obvious juggling game.

If you drop, you lose.

Kaizo Mario World 2

One Yoshi and one throw block juggling.

If you drop, you die.

Fire

Another from the Game and Watch series, from 1980.
Two firemen bounce people jumping from a building on a safety net.

If you drop, they die.

Mario Maker 2

You must pass a Goomba to your co-player as you bounce off Monty Moles.

If you drop, you both die.

Arkanoid

A brick breaker in which you can get a three balls power-up.

You can drop only twice, or you die.

Celeste

In this wonderful game, you get to use a jellyfish to float and transport your character, Madeline.

Juggling the three jellyfishes is not necessary, just a pure work of art.
